Since the fluorine atom in tetrabutylammonium fluoride is a strong hydrogen bond acceptor and is very easy to absorb moisture, the product is usually sold as tetrabutylammonium fluoride trihydrate compound or tetrabutylammonium fluoride tetrahydrofuran solution. When its Chemicalbook is heated to 77°C under vacuum, the compound decomposes into hydrogen fluoride salts, and when the sample dries at 40°C under high vacuum, it still gets 10-30 mol% water content as well as 10% difluoride.
