Remdesivir is a prodrug of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) analogue, which has potential antiviral activity against a variety of RNA viruses. After administration, remdesivir, as a prodrug, was metabolized to its active form GS-441524. As an ATP analogue, GS-4415124 competes with ATP to integrate into RNA and inhibits the action of viral RNA dependent RNA polymerase. This leads to RNA transcription termination and reduces the production of viral RNA.
