Potassium ferrate is a dark purple glossy powder. Stable in dry air below 198℃. It is easily dissolved in water and becomes a light amaranth solution. When left alone, it will decompose and release oxygen, and precipitate iron trioxide (iron oxide). The alkalinity of solution increases with decomposition. It is quite stable in strongly alkaline solution and is an excellent oxidant. It has an efficient disinfection effect. It has stronger oxidation than potassium permanganate.
