What Is Naringenin?
Naringenin powder is the aglycone of naringin, which belongs to dihydroflavonoids. It is white needle-like crystals (methanol) at room temperature, soluble in ethanol, ether and benzene, and almost insoluble in water. The reaction of magnesium hydrochloride powder is cherry red, the reaction of sodium tetrahydroborate is reddish purple, and the reaction of molish is negative. In nature, it mainly comes from the buds of cherry blossoms (Prunusyedoensis Mate.) of the Rosaceae plant, and the core shell of the fruit of the stalk tree (Amacardi-umoccidentale L.) of the Anacardiaceae plant. The core structures of flavonoids are similar, and most of them have poor fat-solubility and water-solubility and low bioavailability. By modifying its structure and introducing groups with strong fat-solubility or water-solubility, its fat-solubility or water-solubility can be improved, thereby improving bioavailability. Its structural modification mainly includes alkylation, acylation, sulfonation, glycoside and formation of metal complexes of hydroxyl groups.
Naringenin is a natural organic compound with the molecular formula C15H12O5. It is yellow powder, soluble in ethanol, ether and benzene. Used for qualitative and quantitative analysis of traditional Chinese medicines containing naringenin. At the 7th carbon position, it forms a glycoside with neohesperidin, called naringin, which tastes extremely bitter. When it is ring-opened and hydrogenated under alkaline conditions to form dihydrochalcones, it is a sweetener with a sweetness up to 2000 times that of sucrose. Hesperetin exists in large quantities in citrus peels. It forms a glycoside with rutinoside at the 7-carbon position, which is called hesperidin, and forms a glycoside with β-neohesperidin at the 7-carbon position, which is called neohesperidin.

What Are The Benefits?
Antibacterial, Antifungal And Antiviral
Naringenin powder has antibacterial effects on Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Chlorophytum and Escherichia coli. Further studies have added Lactococcus lactis, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Actinomyces naeseri, Prevotella oralis Lactobacillus acidophilus, Propionibacterium melanin, Porphyromonas gingivalis and Candida albicans, Tropical and Gram Evidence for antimicrobial agents such as Candida mobilis. Although it has not been demonstrated that naringin has any inhibitory effect on the urease activity of microorganisms, there is evidence that it has an antibacterial effect on Helicobacter pylori.
Antioxidants
Naringenin has been shown to have significant antioxidant properties. It has been shown to reduce oxidative damage to DNA in in vitro and animal studies.
Anti-Inflammatory
Rats were injected intraperitoneally with 20 mg/kg per day, which significantly inhibited the inflammatory process caused by implanting wool balls. Galati et al. found through mouse ear slice experiments that all dose groups of naringenin had anti-inflammatory effects, and the anti-inflammatory effects were enhanced as the dose increased. The inhibition rate of the high-dose group was 30.67% based on thickness difference and about 38% based on weight difference. After DNFB method was used to induce three-phase dermatitis in mice, naringenin was orally administered continuously on the 2nd to 8th day, and the inhibition rate of immediate phase (IPR), late phase (LPR) and very late phase (vLPR) was observed. Naringenin can effectively inhibit the ear edema caused by IPR and vLPR, and has certain development value in anti-inflammation.
Immunomodulatory
By regulating the flow of electrons in the mitochondria, it maintains a moderate oxidative stress balance in a specific time and specific area in the cell. Therefore, the immunomodulatory function of naringenin is different from the traditional simple immune enhancer or immunosuppressant, which is characterized by the ability to restore the imbalanced immune state (pathological state) to a nearly normal immune balance state (physiological state), while It does not enhance or suppress the immune response unidirectionally.
Women's Menstrual Regulation
Naringenin has an activity similar to that of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It can reduce the synthesis of prostaglandin PGE2 by inhibiting cyclooxygenase COX, and play the role of antipyretic, analgesic and inflammation relief.
Based on the estrogen-like effect of naringenin, naringenin can be used for estrogen replacement therapy in postmenopausal women to avoid serious adverse reactions caused by long-term use of estrogen.
Impact On Obesity
It has obvious therapeutic effect on hyperlipidemia and obesity.
It can significantly improve the high plasma cholesterol concentration, TG (triglyceride) concentration and free fatty acid concentration in obese rats. Studies on hyperlipidemia rats have found that naringenin can reduce blood lipid levels by up-regulating monocyte peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor δ.
Through clinical trials, it was found that people with hypercholesterolemia took one capsule containing 400mg naringin every day for 8 weeks. The concentrations of TC and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol in plasma decreased, while the concentrations of TG and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol did not change significantly.
In summary. Naringenin can improve hyperlipidemia in animal experiments and clinical trials have been well confirmed.
Scavenging Free Radicals And Anti-Oxidation
DPPH (diphenylpicryl radical) is a stable free radical, and its ability to scavenge free radicals can be evaluated by its 517nm absorbance attenuation. Kroyer studied the antioxidant effect of naringenin through experiments, and confirmed that naringenin has antioxidant effect. Using DPPH method, it was found that naringenin has a good free radical scavenging effect, and the free radical scavenging effect may be realized through the hydrogen oxidation of naringenin itself. Using the experimental model of light riboflavin (IR) - nitro blue tetrazolium chloride (NBT) - spectrophotometry, it is proved that naringenin has obvious scavenging effect on active oxygen O2-, and the scavenging effect is stronger than that of positive control ascorbic acid. The results of animal experiments show that naringenin has a strong inhibitory effect on lipid peroxidation in brain, heart, and liver tissues of mice, and can significantly enhance the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) in whole blood of mice.
Heart Protection
Naringenin and naringin can increase the activity of acetaldehyde reductase (ADH) and acetaldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH), reduce the content of triglyceride in liver and total cholesterol in blood and liver, and increase high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ( HDLC), increase the ratio of HDLC to total cholesterol, and at the same time reduce the atherosclerosis index, promote the transport of cholesterol from plasma to liver and bile secretion and excretion, and inhibit the conversion of HDL to VLDL or LDL, so naringin can reduce The risk of arteriosclerosis and coronary heart disease. Naringin can reduce the total cholesterol content in plasma and strengthen its metabolism.
Hypolipidemic Effect
Through animal experiments, the serum cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), plasma high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), triglyceride (TG) and other items were detected in the veins of mice after drug administration. The results showed that at a certain dose, naringenin could significantly decrease serum TC, TG, and LDL-C, and relatively increase serum HDL-C, indicating that naringenin has the effect of lowering blood lipids in mice.
Antispasmodic And Choleretic
For flavonoids with a strong role. Naringenin also has a strong effect of increasing bile secretion in experimental animals.
Antitussive And Expectorant Effect
Using phenol red as an indicator of the effect of eliminating diseases, experiments show that naringenin has a strong effect of relieving cough and eliminating phlegm.
What Are The Application Directions?
Naringenin powder has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, cough-relieving, expectorant, blood-lipid-lowering, antispasmodic, scavenging free radicals, prevention and treatment of liver diseases, inhibition of platelet aggregation, anti-atherosclerosis, etc., and can be widely used in medicine , food and other fields.
