What is glycolic acid?

Glycolic Acid powder is the most commonly used alpha hydroxy acid, owing to its reputation as one of the safest and most effective.

Its molecules are the smallest among the AHAs, so it's able to penetrate skin better and be absorbed readily.

Physical and chemical properties

Glycolic acid is a colorless crystal and is slightly hygroscopic. Melting point 78-79 ℃. Soluble in water, methanol, ethanol, acetone, ethyl acetate, ethyl acetate and ether, but almost insoluble in hydrocarbon solvents. Low corrosiveness, non-flammable, odorless, low toxicity, strong biodegradability, high water solubility, and almost non-volatile organic compounds.  

What are the effects on the skin?

1. Exfoliate

Glycolic acid is an exfoliant, which means it safely removes the outer layer of dead skin cells.

2. Moisturize

The mechanism of action of glycolic acid is to reduce the adhesion of keratinocytes by interfering with the binding force of the cell surface, accelerate the shedding and renewal of epidermal cells, and at the same time stimulate the synthesis of dermal collagen and enhance the moisturizing function.

3. Clean pores

When it comes to chemical peels, glycolic acid dominates. But lactic acid has a larger molecular structure. This means that lactic acid cannot penetrate deeply into the skin layers.
