Brief Introduction

Evodiamine is chemical extracted from the Tetradium family of plants, which has been shown to reduce fat uptake in mouse studies. It is suspected that the mechanism of action is similar to the capsaicin. As such, it has been used as some dietary supplements, neither its fat-burning effects in humans nor any potential side effects have been empirically established.

    Evodiamine acts primarily as a thermogenic and stimulant.

    Evodiamine may also act in a manner comparable to tianeptine by increasing the number of serotonin transporters available in the brain and enhacing the reuptake of serotonin.

Main Functions

1. Evodiamine is used to treat symptoms of abdominal distress. This includes nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. It is especially effective in treating morning diarrhea. Evodia is used to stimulate the appetite and to treat abdominal symptoms associated with lack of interest in food.
2. Evodiamine is also used as painkiller. It is a remedy for headaches, especially headaches associated with nausea and vomiting. Traditional Chinese herbalists also use it to treat pain in the upper abdomen and pain associated with abdominal hernias. According to Chinese herbalism, the warm nature of the evodia fruit counteracts cold conditions in the stomach.
3. Evodiamine also has effect of anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, anti-viral, astringent, and diuretic properties. Studies shows that vodia fruit extract strongly inhibit growth of one specific bacteria (Helicobacter pylori, a bacteria usually treated in mainstream medicine with antibiotics). Unlike conventional antibiotics, this extract did not alter the growth patterns of any other intestinal bacteria. This finding supports the traditional use of evodia fruit in digestive disorders.
