Plant Source

1. Echinacea purpurea (Eastern purple coneflower or Purple coneflower) 

is a species of flowering plant in the genus Echinacea. 

2. Its cone-shaped flowering heads are usually, but not always purple. 

3. It is native to eastern North America and present to some extent in the wild in much of the eastern, 

southeastern and midwest United States.

4. It is also grown as an ornamental plant, and numerous cultivars have been developed for flower quality and plant form.

Medicinal properties 

Echinacea is popularly believed to be an immunostimulator, 

stimulating the body's non-specific immune system and warding off infections and also being used as a laxative. 

Echinacea is believed by many people to stimulate the immune system. 

Like most unrefined drugs from plant or animal origin, 

the constituent base for echinacea is complex, consisting of a wide variety of chemicals of variable effect and potency. 

Some chemicals may be directly antimicrobial, while others may work 

at stimulating or modulating different parts of the immune system.
