LAS, easy to oxidize, strong foaming power, high detergency, great compatibility with various additives, low cost, mature synthesis process, wide application field, is an excellent anionic surfactant. Alkylbenzene sulfonate shows significant detergency effect on particle dirt, protein dirt and oily stain. It is especially good for the washing particle stain on natural fibers.
Its detergency power increases with the rise of washing temperature. However, LAS has two main disadvantages. First, the hard water resistance is poor, and the detergency performance can be reduced with the increasing hardness of water. The second is strong degreasing power, it shows a certain degree of irritation while hand washing. In order to obtain a better comprehensive washing result, LAS is often used together with nonionic surfactants such as AEO.
The most important use of LAS is the preparation of various types of liquid, powder, granular detergents. Its biodegradation degree is >90%, so it can be directly used to formulate civil and industrial detergents, such as ordinary (non-phosphorus) washing powder, concentrated (non-phosphorus) detergent, solid detergent, slurry detergent, cream detergent, dyeing auxiliaries for the textile industry, degreasants for the electroplating industry, deinking agents for the paper industry, additives for fertilizes, and other industrial cleaning agents, emulsifiers, dispersants, etc.
