Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate is a colorless or light yellow transparent liquid with a special odor, a boiling point of 386℃, and a relative density of 0.980 ~ 0.983(20/4℃). Insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol, ether and other organic solvents. It is prepared by esterification of phthalic anhydride and 2-ethylhexyl alcohol. It is one of the most widely used plasticizers in plastic processing. Good overall performance, high growth efficiency, low volatility, UV resistance, cold resistance, so that the product's softness and electrical properties are improved, is a relatively ideal main Chemicalbook plasticizer. The toxicity is small, the semi-lethal dose is greater than 30 g/kg body weight. The French Cancer Institute fed its 0.05% feed to four generations of rats, proving that it was non-toxic and non-carcinogenic. However, the carcinogenic effect of large dose remains to be further studied. The United Kingdom, France, Japan, the Netherlands, Germany and other countries allow it to be used in contact with food (except fatty food) plastic products, the United States Food and Drug Administration permits it to be used in food packaging for cellophane, coatings, adhesives and rubber products. It can also be used as a standard sample in chromatographic quantitative analysis.
