Colorless crystals or white particles. No smell. Decomposition above 280℃. Solubility in water: 70.6g at 0℃, 103.8g at 100℃. Insoluble in ethanol and acetone. The pH of 0.1mol/L aqueous solution was 5.5. Relative density 1.77. Refractive index 1.521. Ammonium sulfate is mainly used as fertilizer and is suitable for all kinds of soil and crops. Also can be used for textile, leather, medicine and other aspects.

The pure product is colorless transparent rhombic crystal, and its aqueous solution is acidic. Insoluble in alcohol, acetone and ammonia [1]. Has the hygroscopicity, after the hygroscopicity consolidation becomes the block. When heated to over 513℃, it is completely decomposed into ammonia, nitrogen, sulfur dioxide and water. It reacts with alkali to release ammonia. React with barium chloride solution to form barium sulfate precipitation. It can also salt out proteins.

An excellent nitrogen fertilizer (commonly known as fertilizer), suitable for general soil and crops, can make branches and leaves grow vigorously, improve fruit quality and yield, enhance the ability of crops to resist disasters, can be used as base fertilizer, topdressing fertilizer and seed fertilizer. It can produce ammonium chloride by double decomposition reaction with table salt, ammonium alum by reaction with aluminum sulfate, and refractory by boric acid. The addition of electroplating solution can increase electrical conductivity. It is also the catalyst for food caramel, the nitrogen source for yeast culture in the production of fresh yeast, the dye aid for acid dyeing, and the dedusting agent for leather. In addition, it is also used in beer brewing, chemical reagents and battery production. There is also an important role is mining rare earth, mining with ammonium sulfate as raw materials, the use of ion exchange form of rare earth elements in the mineral soil exchange, and then collect leach solution to remove impurities, precipitation, pressing, burning after the formation of rare earth ore, each mining production of 1 ton of rare earth ore about 5 tons of ammonium sulfate.

Biological use are many, many process used for protein purification, because ammonium sulphate belongs to an inert material, not easy to react with other biological active substances, in the purification process can protect protein activity to a great extent, on the other hand, soluble ammonium sulfate is wonderful, can form high salt environment, for protein precipitation to prepare high salt and purification of follow-up. There is a big difference between the solubility of ammonium sulfate at zero degree and that at room temperature of 25 degrees. The following is the molar concentration of ammonium sulfate with different saturation at two temperatures.
