    Main application: to generate orange complex complex between o-phenanthroline and ferrous ion at PH4~5, and then to determine iron content by spectrophotometry.

    Physical and chemical properties: hydrate is a white crystalline powder. Melting point is 93-94℃, the melting point of anhydrous substances is 117℃, soluble in 300 parts water, 70 parts benzene, soluble in alcohol and acetone.

    It can form complexes with various transition metals. The complexes formed are chelates, so they are relatively stable. The complexes and derivatives formed with copper have certain cutting activity on DNA and can be used as non-oxidizing nucleic acid cutting enzyme, which has certain anticancer activity. Properties: when recrystallized with water, it contains one molecule of crystal water. 91.5 ℃ melting point (102 ℃). Soluble in ethanol, benzene, acetone, insoluble in petroleum ether. It forms complexes with iron, copper, cobalt, nickel and 2,2 '-dipyridines, and forms red complexes with Fe2+. 2,2' -dipyridinyl -3,3 '-dicarboxylic acid by potassium permanganate oxidation. It can be used as a quantitative colorimetric reagent for copper and iron and as an indicator for titration of iron salt with cerium sulfate. It can also be used as dyes for animal fibers.
