Almac's Charnwood site achieves H&S and environmental certification

The CDMO plans to roll out the ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 certification throughout multiple sites worldwide

Almac says that following a UK Accreditation Service (UKAS) audit of the Integrated Management System (IMS) at its Charnwood site, the CDMO has achieved globally recognised health, safety and environmental management system certifications.

ISO 45001 and 14001 are globally recognised International Organisation for Standardization standards for Operational Health & Safety and Environmental Management, respectively.

The Charnwood site in Loughborough (UK), which the CDMO expanded into in 2015, complements the company’s existing pharmaceutical drug product development services at its global headquarter campus in Craigavon, Northern Ireland. This site has been certified with Health & Safety and Environmental standards for more than a decade.

The facilities at Charnwood have significant capacity to support tailored GMP formulation development and manufacturing of solid oral dosage forms for clinical and small-scale commercial needs, in addition to housing in excess of 1,500 m2 of readily available, customisable GMP floor space.

The company says the certification of the Charnwood campus marks the start of its overall strategy to roll out the ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 certification throughout multiple sites across the globe in the coming years.

James Hurst, VP Operations & Charnwood Site Head described the certification as a "significant achievement in demonstrating that our Charnwood site is a safe, sustainable and responsible place for our global partners to conduct their projects".
