Amidst the global COVID-19 pandemic, over 1700 children spread a little warmth towards General Practitioners in 853 Public Health Preparedness Clinics (PHPC) island-wide, by dedicating care packages to these frontline doctors. Singapore Kindness Movement convened the students of YMCA Student Care Centres (SCC), Kiddiwinkie Schoolhouse, Little Footprints Preschool, Eshkol Valley and St. James' Church Kindergarten, together with BETADINE® in the preparation of care packages.
Singapore Kindness Movement documented the children from various pre-schools and SSCs penning their well wishes on customisable Singa Appreciation Cards, as well as the distribution of the care packages, with each package containing 2 bottles of BETADINE® nasal sprays. Led by Eva Alemany-Chia, a 7-year old aspiring reporter, the online video sees her sending well wishes with Singa, the mascot of Singapore Kindness Movement, to Dr Stephen Tong of Bethesda Medical Centre.
The light-hearted video, where portions were filmed before the circuit breaker measures were implemented, conveys the wide-eyed innocence of these children, and their unfiltered views on the virus situation. Children from various pre-schools also expressed their gratitude to the doctors virtually through teleconference videos, when the circuit breaker measures were in place.
"When the COVID-19 outbreak started, I wanted to show appreciation to the doctors who are working very hard during this period to keep us safe and healthy. I approached the Singapore Kindness Movement, where I'm a volunteer at, and they helped me accomplish this," Eva Alemany-Chia explained. "I am glad that my little idea can bring so much joy to the doctors, and I hope we can overcome this virus soon!"
United in the fight against COVID-19
As part of the SG United movement, this collaboration is a continuation of the Singapore Kindness Movement's Overcome as One campaign, which rallies Singaporeans to look out for one another during these trying times.
"I am extremely heartened to see our children taking the first step towards kindness, and corporations stepping up to assist as well. I hope Singaporeans will do the same and treat others with empathy and grace," Dr William Wan, General Secretary of Singapore Kindness Movement said. "We have witnessed moments of unity, such as Singaporeans applauding our front liners from their own windows, and when everyone can come together to do their part, I am sure we will emerge stronger and more resilient as a nation after this episode is over."
"We applaud the spirit behind this initiative, especially during these unprecedented times. The BETADINE® brand is about caring for yourself and others, and this initiative is a wonderful expression of that. We are proud to be associated with this special project and look forward to supporting others like this in the future," said Raman Singh, Mundipharma CEO.
