Chinese patients have benefited from expanded access to cancer drugs in the country, Xinhua reported.
Last October, the prices of 17 cancer drugs were slashed by an average of 56.7 percent following negotiations with drugmakers.
"Now, the total cost is down to about 15 000 yuan since the hospital buys from the supplier at a government-negotiated price," explained Beijing Hospital oncologist Li Lin, adding "covered by the insurance scheme, the patient only needs to pay about 3000 to 4600 yuan after reimbursement."
According to China's National Healthcare Security Administration, hospitals and pharmacies purchased more than 1.8 million doses of cancer drugs at lower prices following negotiations.
