According to reports, Purdue executive Richard Sackler agreed to withhold the potency of the opioid analgesic OxyContin from doctors, The Hill reported.
Using emails from a sealed deposition, the reports alleged that Sackler to a suggestion by sales and marketing director Michael Friedman to not contest the belief that OxyContin was less potent than morphine.
Sackler is a member of the controlling family of the drugmaker.
In 2007, Purdue paid $600 million in fines after pleading guilty to downplaying OxyContin's potency.
"During the deposition, [Sackler] described Purdue’s efforts to adhere to all relevant laws and regulations," commented Purdue Pharma spokesperson Bob Josephson.
