Emergency services were called to the site after the incident was reported at around 11:20am, with the pair taken to University Hospital Waterford. One of the victims is said to be in a serious condition and may be required to be transferred to another hospital over the coming days, but the injuries to both have been described as non-life threatening.
"Two members of the Waterford site team were injured and brought by ambulance to University Hospital Waterford," said a spokesman for Sanofi labs. "The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) have also been informed in line with established protocols and a thorough investigation will be conducted."
Exact details of the incident are unclear until such an investigation has taken place. A spokesperson from the HSA confirmed that they had been contacted and were aware of the incident, and that they were awaiting emergency services to leave the scene so they could send inspectors to the site. Said inspection is expected to have already commenced late Wednesday night or Thursday morning.
