Pillsy announced Wednesday the launch of the "first smart pill bottle and mobile app," which aims to help users remember and track their vitamins and medication. CEO Jeff LeBrun remarked that "non-adherence is not only dangerous, but …is costing the healthcare system about $300 billion in wasteful spending each year; if we could solve this problem it would be enough to cover the healthcare costs of about 30 million Americans."
Specifically, Pillsy connects to the user's phone via Bluetooth and senses when the medication bottle is opened and closed. The company explained that the information is synced to the phone and "provides intelligent reminders both via the bottle and your smartphone when a dose is forgotten." Further, the system provides double dose warnings, and can provide notifications and weekly reports to care givers, the company added.
