US-based biopharmaceutical company Nanotherapeutics has been acquired by Serum Institute of India.
Based in India, the acquirer company develops and manufactures drugs. Serum Institute has paid €45m ($48.85m) as an upfront payment for the €72m ($78.17m) acquisition, while the remaining consideration will be paid a year later.
The acquisition is expected to help the Indian company to create a unit for polio vaccine injectables.
German healthcare company Fresenius has reached an agreement to acquire Akorn for $4.3bn.

The acquirer company will also assume the target company’s net debt of approximately $450m.
Akorn is a generic pharmaceutical company based in the US, whose acquisition is expected to complement Fresenius’ medicines division.
NanoCarrier, a company based in Japan, is set to acquire US-based Tocagen.
Both companies involved in the acquisition are biotechnology firms.
