Glycyrrhiza uralensis (GLA) is a hydrophobic isoflavone compound, which is a unique component of Glycyrrhiza uralensis. It has a wide range of biological activities, such as prevention of atherosclerosis, anti-inflammatory, anti-osteoporosis, neuroprotective effect and so on. notably, GLA can inhibit tyrosinase activity and hinder melanin production in skin, which is called "whitening gold" in cosmetics field. But GLA don't soluble in water, which limits its application in external preparations. After cyclodextrin inclusion and then transdermal absorption in vitro, the cumulative transmittance of the drug increased significantly, in which Hydroxypropyl Beta cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD) could improve the solubility of insoluble substances and improve the stability of inclusion compounds.
Hydroxypropyl beta cyclodextrin produced by Ziyuan, Binzhou, Shandong Province, have been extensively studied on the properties, preparation process, stability, pharmacology, toxicology, teratogenicity, mutagenicity, carcinogenesis, hemolysis and irritation of hydroxypropyl beta cyclodextrins. The prepared inclusion compounds can significantly improve drug stability, increase solubility and bioavailability of insoluble drugs, reduce drug side effects, and cover up adverse drug odors.
