PVP is soluble in water, has hygroscopicity, its equilibrium moisture absorption is about 1/3 of the relative humidity of the environment, similar to the hydration of proteins, each monomer is associated with 0.5mol of water. Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) is not prone to chemical reactions. When stored under normal conditions, dry PVP is very stable. The anti-mildew solution is also stable. When heated to 150 °C in air or mixed with ammonium persulfate and heated at 90 °C for 30min, PVP will be exchanged to form water-insoluble compounds. In the presence of azo compounds or oxidants such as dichromate Chemicalbook, light can turn the PVP solution into a gel. Precipitation occurs when the solution is coheated with a strong base such as sodium silicate or trisodium phosphate.
