Two related compounds, hydroxytetracycline monohydrochloride and oxytetracycline calcium, are registered as pesticides, for use in preventing the growth of or killing bacteria, fungi and mycoplasma-like organisms. Oxytetracycline is also approved by the FDA for use as a human and animal drug to treat a variety of bacterial infections.
