Vitamin K2 has various derivates. The most common forms are synthetic vitamin K2 as menaquinone-4 (MK-4) and natural vitamin K2 as menaquinone-7 (MK-7). It is of great importance to bone and cardiovascular health.
All K vitamins are similar in structure, but differ in the length of the "side chain". The longer the side chain, the better effect and efficiency. Consequently, the long-chain menaquinones (especially MK-7) are the most desirable as they are nearly completely absorbed (body requires smaller doses) and stay in the blood for the longest time.
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA)published the positive opinion to demonstrate causality between the dietary intake of vitamin K2 and the normal function of the heart and blood vessels. Then Vitamin K2, MK-7 from natto have been authenticated as new resources food. According to the data from WHO,the long-chain menaquinones(especially MK-7)are considered the best vitamin K2. The safety and function of Vitamin K2 (MK-7) has been approved.
Function of Vitamin K2
1. Nutritional supplements
Vitamin K2 is used as a food nutrient fortifier and can be used to formulate milk powder (only for children's milk powder, only for pregnant women's milk powder).
2. Health food
For health food, vitamin K2 has been included in the health food filing catalog, and currently only fermented vitamin K2 is allowed for filing. The functional ingredient of vitamin K2 (fermentation method), the daily upper limit of vitamin K2 (in terms of menadione heptaenone) is 100 g (14-17 years old, adults and pregnant women).

Molecular Formula: C46H64O2
Formula Weight: 649.0
Purity: 1000ppm; 2000ppm; 2500ppm; 10000ppm; 13000ppm; 20000ppm
Carrier: Cyclodextrin; Microcrystalline cellulose; Starch
Appearance: Vitamin K2 MK7 is a yellow, crystalline powder that is soluble in fat but insoluble in water.
Function: Vitamin K2 MK7 is a form of vitamin K that is important for the activation of proteins involved in blood coagulation and the regulation of calcium metabolism in the body. It is also important for maintaining bone health and preventing calcification of blood vessels.
Application: Vitamin K2 Pure is commonly used as a dietary supplement, typically in the form of capsules or tablets. It is often recommended for individuals who are at risk for vitamin K deficiency, which can occur in people with certain medical conditions or who are taking certain medications. It is also sometimes used to support bone health in postmenopausal women and to support cardiovascular health.
100% all-trans form: Vitamin K2 MK7 is available in different forms, including the 100% all-trans form, which is the natural, biologically active form of the vitamin. This form is typically preferred over the synthetic cis form, which is less stable and less effective. Supplements that contain the 100% all-trans form of Vitamin K2 MK7 are typically labeled as such. |

MK7 is a specific form of vitamin K2 that is derived from the fermentation of soybeans or other plant sources. It is believed to be more bioavailable and have a longer half-life in the body than other forms of vitamin K2, making it an attractive ingredient for dietary supplements.
For instance, Vitamin K2 can be a great partner with calcium to improve bone and cardiovascular Health
Insufficient consumption of calcium can result in reduced bone mineral density, heightening the probability of bone fractures. Calcium supplementation can enhance bone mineral density and strength, thus preventing osteoporosis. Nevertheless, current scientific research implies that an excessive intake of calcium supplements may heighten the risk of heart disease and lead to hastened calcium accumulation in soft tissues and blood-vessel walls. Conversely, vitamin K2 has been linked to the inhibition of arterial stiffening and calcification. Adequate intake of vitamin K2 can minimize vascular damage by activating matrix GLA protein (MGP), which deters calcium deposits on walls. Vitamin K, particularly vitamin K2, is almost entirely absent in junk food and minimally consumed even in a nutritious Western diet. Inadequate activation of MGP resulting from vitamin K deficiency significantly hampers the process of calcium removal and raises the risk of blood-vessel calcification. Increasing vitamin K2 intake could potentially mitigate calcium-associated health hazards.
With advancements in manufacturing processes, the amount of vitamin K, specifically vitamin K2, found in today's food supply has significantly decreased. As a result, relying on vitamin K2 supplements is a more dependable method for ensuring sufficient intake.
Achieving a proper balance between calcium and K2 intake may help combat osteoporosis while also preventing the hardening and calcification of arteries. |
